Grilled Camembert is as much as a Starter as a Treat. It is meltingingly indulgent. One Grilled Camembert can be served for one individual but as it is very filling it is better to share it between two persons which makes it a convivial Starter. It is served with a Side Salad but mainly with slices of Garlic Bread to dip within the onctuous Cheese. Rustic, comforting, Grilled Camembert is the right Starter during Winter.

Grilled Camembert
Timing
  • Preptime: 10 to 15 minutes
  • Cooktime: 10 to 15 minutes
  • Servings: 2 portions
Ingredients

1 or 2 Camemberts depending on the appetite in the room.

2 Red Onions.

1 knob of Salted Butter.

A little Rapeseed Oil or Walnut Oil.

Garlic Pepper and Salt.

1 Baguette.

More Butter for the Baguette.

4 Garlic Cloves, peeled and crushed.

Watercress, Lambs Lettuce, Rocket or Chard Leaves for the Salad.

White Wine Vinegar.

A teaspoon of Wholegrain Mustard.

Steps

First start to preheat the oven at gas mark 4.

Second prepare your crusty Baguette by slicing it nearly all the way through. Put it upon a baking tray with a foil or not. Put little Butter within each slices.

Peel, crush, chop or mince your Garlic Cloves. Then place the Garlic pieces within the Baguette slices evenly.

Put  your Garlic Baguette in the oven.

Next you need to light up your grill.

Peel and chop your Red Onions in half Moons/circle. Put a pan on the stove with Butter and a little Oil to caramelise the Onions gently but surely. With a spoonfull of Caster Sugar and a drop of Red Wine Vinegar added in.

Place your Camembert under the Grill to cook.

Meanwile prepare your little Salad and dress it lightly upon the plates.

Stir the Onions.

Turn your Camembert to have this nice grilled effect. Then again for the other side.

The Garlic Bread should be out of the oven cooling by then. Start plating it in seperated slices.

Then comes the grilled Camemberts as centre pieces in the middle of the plates.

Check, stir and pour your caramelised Red Onions upon the centre of the Cheese and within the Salad.

All there is to do now is to serve for one or share. Simple but lush.
