Given the cold weather one would be surprised about the quantity of seasonal ingredients available during the Winter months. Of course with good storage and the different methods of preserving food, we can enjoy the produce of other seasons deep into Winter, and with world trade going full flow, we hardly feel the pinch of the colder months anymore upon our tables. However, if I do not qualify myself as a purist, for me a Strawberry eaten in December tastes not the same as a ripe Strawberry eaten within its rightful season: I would swear that it tastes like the watery shadow of the Summer Strawberry. Trying to keep it seasonal and as local as possible has its stamp of eco-friendliness all over it, it's thinking of food miles and such. To return to my first point a lot of seasonal ingredients can ornate the Winter table. In this Section, you will find a fair selection of them, based on the UK /European climate.
