Echeveria blossoming (05/2022)

A Rockery has been a pet project for a while. However it did still stay upon scrap paper, lots of reading of articles in Gardening Magazines, and planting schemes thoughts for going all desertic, heat resistant plants to going for a more Mediterranean scheme.

To the wide array of ideas but the limiting amount of space and how feasable it is, the project still remains pretty shambolic. However the virtual conception of it is starting to take place by acquiring the Plants to be within the Rockery.

One of the main feature/centre point is an Olive Tree which has been with me for a dozen of years. It is the start of any design plan. Hence my will to give a Med vibe to the Rockery.

The Olive Tree about to flower. (2019)

I did get Thyme, Rosemary and Lavender over the years to fill the Summer evening with lovely scents. My latest acquisition this year is Orange scented Thyme seeds. I am looking forward to their results. They will go in the Rockery when they are fully grown and the Rockery is fully conceived.

Our Rosemary bush is mature and has been flowering every year. Culinary wise it is so handy to have that Aromatic Herb in the back Garden.

A Rockery Garden does not have to be just pretty to look at, it can also be very useful. So I did go for Aromatic Herbs first of all which I could use in my Kitchen or even my Home for their lovely scent. 2022 we welcomed a little Lime Tree, it will not do anything for about 3 to 4 years in terms of Fruits but still it will add to the structure of the Rockery we have in mind.

As 2 never goes without 3, I am on the lookout for a third Tree to add to the collection but also to bring structure to the Rockery. Not making my mind up yet, however I did plant some Mandarin Pips. They were from the Christmas Mandarins and every Pips we did keep. We did put in pots. They are already showing some growth. Cross fingers. Otherwise I was toying with the idea of acquiring a Walnut Tree (like there was one in my Grand Parents's Garden) or a Fig Tree (like we had down the street on our way to Primary School).

The Mandarin Project Edited.JPG

Mandarin Projects, we had many over the years and they did turn out well. We gave the plants to people who loved gardening most of the time as presents. This time the 2022 Mandarin babies will stay with us (2).

As for Succulent Plants I did go for a Kalanchoe, a Crassula Ovata and an Echeveria. The Kalanchoe which has very garish pink blossoms did finish flowering but is still keeping strong. The Crassula is living and went growing upwards and upwards. As for the Echeveria which was a 'Coup de Coeur' it is flowering (05/2022) this month. I am so pleased about it.

As for succulent Plants, I would love the Rockery to have a couple of Aloe Vera of different kind but also 2 to 3 Cactus Plants. The matter of fact is it will be a learning curve for me to make it work swimmingly, but when someone doesn't try, results will never show.

Succulent Plants can be found easily as gifts and make some very nice House Plants.
