One of our Jay birds.

We do have three Jays coming to our Garden for about three years now (2022 is now). They are quite established in our tall trees. So much so that we have a nest this Spring 2022 (March).

The Eating Jay.JPG

One of our Jay Birds eating Peanuts.

Like all of our Wild Birds we are feeding them throughout the year. They do like Peanuts and Hazelnuts mainly. However the Jays are not adverse to dried Mealworms, and Fruits like Blueberries, Grapes and Raspberries. They also do eat flies.

They are reputed to be very shy Birds but also very elusive. However when they feel safe, I think they are more daring. It may be an assumption or just an observation. Being partly mobility challanged, hence I can trip often, the Birds are fine with it all. I whistle the same tune to feed them all and they do approach however clumsy I am. They do know the feed call.

The fact is that the Jays will watch from the trees. They will wait up there. Then they will wait for the Squirrels to hide their Peanuts then they will dig those very Peanuts from the ground. It is a very interesting behaviour.
